Two years after his death, Celine Dion confessed that her mother did not initially support her union with René Angélil, who was 26 years her senior. Dion, 49, also spoke about his sickness shortly before his passing, revealing that he was forced to eat through a tube during the last three years of his life, said the Daily Mail. Angélil was also Dion’s manager. He passed away in January 2016. She added: “The only thing I hoped for while he was in agony for three years was for him to live in peace. I wanted him to have no worries.” “He had a small heart attack, it was so quick. He didnt feel a thing. I felt as though he was freed from pain.” About her love story with Angélil, she recalled: “He is the only man Ive seen. The only man Ive loved.” It was manager Angélil who is credited with convincing Dion to sing love songs in English. “I fell in love with him immediately,” she noted. “Not in the romantic way, I was 12 years old. I was in love with the way he treated everyone around me, including my whole family and myself,” Dion explained. The Canadian said that her mother initially disapproved of the union because “it was not the person that she wanted for me”. The couple married in 1994 when Dion was 26 years old. Now, two years after Angélil’s passing, she said she is doing much better. Dion, who has three children with Angélil - René-Charles, 17, and twins Nelson and Eddie, 7 - said her late husband lives on in their eyes.
