Saudi Arabia has achieved a progress on the list of best countries on terms of the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), which is issued by Transparency International. The kingdom jumped from rank 62 in 2016 to 57 in 2017, advancing five positions. These developments are a reflection of the reform steps and positive transformation of the kingdom on all levels, going in tandem with Saudi Vision 2030. This index measures used data of corruption activities such as bribery, embezzlement of public fund and exploiting the authority for personal interests. The index also measures some mechanisms and data put to combat corruption. Commenting on this positive development, Economy and Planning Minister Mohammed al-Tuwaijri said that the progress of the kingdom in the CPI in 2017 indicates that the kingdom is taking steady steps towards economic reforms to achieve sustainable development and welfare of the Saudi community, under the leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Husam Madani, Director General for the National Center for Performance Measurement, said that the commitment of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to fight corruption was a beginning to a new age in the kingdom. He lauded that reinforcing transparency concepts in the government work and the kingdom’s approach to measure the quality of services and beneficiaries’ satisfaction towards the services are both considered a cornerstone to follow up the government performance and the integral work with the supervisory bodies. In this context, Saudi Arabias Finance Minister Mohammed al-Jadaan affirmed, four months ago, that the royal order to form a high committee to limit corruption falls under the approach to foster the state of law and to activate anti-corruption systems, which are applied by the government. Jadaan stressed that these strict decisions would maintain the investment environment in Saudi Arabia and reinforce confidence in applying rules at everyone.
