Global Partnerships Boost Military Industry in Saudi Arabia

Chief of Staff of the Saudi Armed Forces Gen. Abdulrahman bin Saleh al-Bunyan inaugurated Sunday the Armed Forces Exhibition for Diversity of Requirements and Capabilities (AFED 2018) on behalf of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Deputy Premier and Minister of Defense. In its fourth session, AFED 2018, was launched under the slogan “Our Industry.. Our Strength” at Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Center to highlight and support local content and localize complementary industries in accordance with the Saudi Vision 2030. The inauguration of the seven-day exhibition was attended by a number of ministers and officials from Saudi Arabia, Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) and from brotherly and friendly countries in addition to Turkey as the guest of honor. It will host 143 local factories and 38 local and international systems along with a series of events, seminars and lectures in addition to workshops with senior officials from the public and private sectors and international figures. AFED aims at boosting communication with national factories, increasing the use of local content and allowing national laboratories and research centers, which are specialized in the industrial field, to present their products and capabilities to support local manufacturing. It also aims to present manufacturing opportunities of materials and spare parts offered by participating exhibitors, who are expected to amount to 80,000 categories as investment opportunities. AFED 2018 witnessed an increase in the number of pieces displayed, reserved spaces and exhibiting companies, whether internal or external, as it consists of five main sections. The first section includes requirements of military and civilian beneficiaries such as military, civil, and large corporations, each displaying its requirements of equipment, materials and spare parts. The second section includes international companies that have signed contracts with the ministry of defense and the 18 international participating parties. The third part comprises relevant government parties to ensure contact between beneficiaries and the private sector, including 32 ministries, agencies, government funds, research centers and laboratories, The fourth section consists of national factories and companies to introduce their manufacturing capabilities while the fifth section showcases some i
