JEDDAH: Advances in technology are changing every aspect of human life and in order to adapt to the latest development, experts stress the need to raise awareness among the masses in this regard. Experts at the 15th annual Learning and Technology Conference organized by Effat University on Sunday discussed issues pertaining to the fast-changing technologies and ways to effectively gain from the technological revolution. The event titled “Internet of Things (IoT) …Embedding Technology” was attended by a number of experts from different fields who highlighted the pros and cons of technology and the impact of automation on our daily lives. “We chose this topic to raise awareness among people, to get them ready, to make them aware of the risks, and the pros and cons and to help prepare them to adapt to it, because usually, people resist change,” said Dr. Khulood Rambo, dean of Effat College of Engineering, who also chaired the conference. Dr. Abdulrahman Alahdal gave a presentation on “Biomedical application of IoT technologies and its effect.” He highlighted how technology has changed medical procedures. Through his presentation titled “Internet of Things: The New Education and Learning Era,” Dr. Abdulrahman Sheikh underscored the importance of the Internet in imparting education. Scott Amyx, who was the keynote speaker, discussed the impact of technology in the industrial sector in his presentation titled “Saudi Arabia’s potential to be the No. 1 renewable energy producer in the world.” He highlighted Effat University’s Master of Science in Energy Engineering program, specifically the Renewable Energy concentration. “There is a definite hunger for progress and transformation,” Amyx said. Dr. Adil Rajput, an instructor at Effat University, explained that the conference was specifically focused on the learning aspects of various technologies. “Technology is shaping our lives and we need to take a look at different aspects including security and social,” he told Arab News.
