Israel uncovered on Thursday a plan to deploy a large number of its border guards in the West Bank with an aim to “fill the gap that might be caused when the Israeli soldiers are busy fighting at the Lebanese frontline during the next war.” A military source at the Israeli Army said that soldiers have already started coordinating with the police to justify the deployment of a large number of those guards at the border. The Border Guards are usually trained to quell demonstrations and to confront Palestinians. The plan, which includes deploying nine reserve units from the border guards, aims to strengthen the armed forces in case of an emergency. The source also said that two units from those guards had completed their training and have already started operating in the West Bank Thursday. In Lebanon, Army Commander General Joseph Aoun reiterated the readiness of his forces on the southern border to confront any Israeli military aggression, stressing that "the Army has full intentions to defend Lebanese rights with all its means and capabilities.” Two days ago, Israeli Ground Forces commander Maj. Gen. Kobi Barak said the chance for war has increased in 2018. Explaining the development of the Israeli war plan, Barak said, “The next war will not be a war of several days, but it wont last several months either. The ground maneuver will be faster, wider and deeper… in order to remove the threat on the Israeli home front.” The Israeli general said that killing Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah would be a victory in a future Israeli war against Lebanon. "If we manage to kill Nasrallah in the next war, I would see that as reaching a decisive victory," Barak said.
