Syrian regime forces made advances on Saturday in the southeastern part of the besieged Eastern Ghouta enclave and started to “break up” opposition-controlled areas east of Damascus. "Regime forces and their allies have intensified their attacks on rebel positions in the past 48 hours," said head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights Rami Abdel Rahman according to AFP. The Britain-based monitoring group said that more than 630 civilians have been killed since regime forces started their aerial bombardment on Ghouta three weeks ago. The Observatory added that the forces were able to make important advances, seizing control of Hosh Al-Dawahra, Hosh al-Zriqa, Al-Shifonyyah, Otaya, Hosh al-Salhiya, Tallat Farzat, forcing Jaysh al-Islam to withdraw from the towns of Hazrma and al-Nashabiyah. “Syrian regime forces are trying to advance in order to isolate the areas of al-Marj, Douma and several other areas in Eastern Ghouta,” it said, adding that Russian advisors were assisting Syrian regime forces in their military operation. Meanwhile, Russias center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria reported on Saturday that “armed fighters in Ghouta continued to violate the humanitarian truce.” For its part, the opposition "Al-Dorar al-Shamia” network said regime forces were trying to infiltrate Eastern Ghouta using rockets that contain the internationally banned incendiary material, Napalm. On another Syrian front, Turkish airstrikes killed at least 36 pro-regime fighters backing the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) in the northwestern enclave of Afrin. The Observatory said the strikes on the area of Kafr Janna in north Afrin were the third such raid on regime forces in the enclave during the past two days. The Syrian Democratic Forces alliance said in a statement on Saturday that the Turkish raids targeted pro-regime positions, but gave no death toll.
