Kuwaits House of Representatives Affairs and Defense Committee unanimously approved on Sunday a draft law on amending the armys law as passed by the National Assembly and rejected a proposal to amend the law to equate Gulf and stateless military personnel with their Kuwaiti counterparts. The head of the committee, deputy Askar al-Enezi said in a televised statement that the report will be submitted to the Council to be discussed in the meeting on Tuesday. Enezi was hopeful that the draft law will be approved. Last year, Kuwait’s Chief of the General Staff allowed stateless people, known as Bedoon, to join the Gulf country’s ground and air forces. "The need for an amendment to equating stateless military personnel and Gulf men in the Kuwaiti military has ceased because this was achieved in Law No. (32) of 1967 of the Army," indicated Enezi. For his part, the Committees Rapporteur MP Nayef al-Mirdas told the press at the National Assembly after the meeting that the committees rejection of the amendment to the draft law was due to lack of need after hearing representatives of the Ministry of Defense which ensured that equality among all military members is achieved. Mirdas said that the committees vote on the law was approved in the first deliberation and will be on Tuesdays session agenda, stressing that there is a consensus on the law between the legislative and executive authorities. The MP indicated that the representatives of the Ministry of Defense confirmed that the Gulf and stateless military personnel will be treated as Kuwaitis in all features, whether in promotions or salary, courses or treatment abroad for them and their families. He concluded that the military will receive their salaries in full without the deduction of social insurance and therefore their salaries will be more than that of Kuwaiti military.
