Saudi Arabia renewed on Tuesday its condemnation of the human rights violations committed in Syria’s Eastern Ghouta enclave, reported the Saudi Press Agency. Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz chaired a cabinet session in Riyadh, which demanded that all sides commit to the implementation of United Nations Resolution 2401 on Syria. Eastern Ghouta has been under a siege by the Syrian regime and its militias, said the cabinet. The civilians there are also victim to all forms of heavy shelling and chemical attacks. Aid has been barred from entering the region, it added, therefore urging all concerned sides to allow help to reach those in need and evacuate the sick and wounded. The government also hailed Bahrain on its counter-terrorism efforts, praising its security agencies for thwarting a number of terror plots and arresting 116 members of a terrorist cell linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards. The cabinet also condemned the series of attacks that targeted the French embassy in Burkina Faso, as well as the armed forces base. King Salman then informed the gatherers of the details of the handwritten message he received on Sunday from Kuwait Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah. He informed them of the talks he held by telephone with Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi and the meetings he had with visiting Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri and Tunisian Interior Minister Lutfi Brahem. The cabinet also discussed the visit by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, to Egypt. The Crown Prince kicked off his trip on Sunday. He held talks with President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi and oversaw the signing of several tourism and investment agreements. The cabinet addressed Saudi Arabia’s participation in the 37th UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. It stressed that the Kingdom will go ahead with its efforts to bolster and protect human rights on all levels. It added that it will continue to cooperate and positively deal with international human rights mechanisms.
