Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir said his country agreed with Britain on the need to deter Iran and stop its support for terrorism. British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, for his part, said that the Persian State was destabilizing the region and playing a destructive and dangerous role in Yemen. Johnson and Al-Jubeir talked about the war in Yemen during a joint press conference in London on Wednesday, on the sidelines of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s visit. “We supported the transitional process and the political dialogue in Yemen,” the Saudi minister said, stressing that the war “was imposed on us” and that Houthi militias have thwarted all attempts to reach a political solution in the country. Al-Jubeir also stressed that the Kingdom would continue to provide humanitarian assistance to Yemen after the end of war. Johnson revealed a British-Saudi agreement to control navigation routes in preparation for the opening of Yemeni ports. He noted that Britain would seek an international meeting to discuss with Saudi Arabia a political solution in Yemen, stressing that everyone understood the Kingdom’s efforts to protect its borders. The press conference also discussed the various aspects of Saudi-British economic and strategic cooperation. “The two sides will launch a strategic partnership comprising all areas,” Al-Jubeir said, referring to the Strategic Partnership Council, which will cover several sectors including education, training, skills, financial and investment services, culture, entertainment, health services, life sciences, technology, renewable energies and defense industries. Pointing to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, Al-Jubeir emphasized that the comprehensive development and restructuring program would offer great opportunities for an active British role and for further cooperation between the two countries.
