Egyptians living abroad will vote for three consecutive days, starting Friday, in the country’s presidential elections, which will see a shy competition between current President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi - who has the greatest chance of winning – and the head of Al-Ghad Party, Moussa Mustafa Moussa. The voting process will extend over three days and will take place in 139 polling stations around the world. Elections committees in Libya, Yemen and Syria have not been established due to the security and political conditions in the three countries. The National Elections Commission and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are working together to follow up the executive procedures and to ensure that the logistical preparations are completed in the various embassies. A team of diplomats working in Egyptian embassies abroad will monitor and manage the committees, which are all connected to the National Electoral Network for voters’ registration in the electoral database. According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, nearly 10 million Egyptians live abroad, but only those who are 18 years old and registered in the voter database are entitled to vote. Presidential elections will take place inside Egypt for three consecutive days, beginning March 26. The number of eligible voters in the country is estimated at 60 million people. The winner of the elections will be able to lead the country for the next four years. Sisi will not have the right to run for another presidential term, in line with the Egyptian Constitution. Meanwhile, a group of Egyptian expatriates, calling themselves the General Union of Egyptians Abroad, asked all voters living abroad to participate in the upcoming elections. “The positive participation in the elections is the highest form of belonging to the country, with the need to behave well in order to show the civilized image of Egypt and the Egyptians,” the union said in a statement.
