Sheikh Sultan bin Suhaim al-Thani stressed on Monday that the regime in Qatar has “brought tragedy to its neighbors.” He said in a tweet addressed to Qatari civilians: “We are forging ahead in returning Qatar back to its natural fold.” “We will rid it of the flaws in its regime that has threatened our security and stability,” he added. “We are all united in confronting all of these crimes,” he declared. Last week, Sheikh Sultan had said in a televised interview that his actions are aimed at introducing a regime change Qatar. He said that current ruler, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad is walking in his father’s footsteps and has not heeded advice presented to him by the ruling family. The main goal of several members of the al-Thani family is to save Qatar from the current rule, he stated. There can be no solution to the crisis with this leadership, he added. Sheikh Sultan revealed that he had departed Qatar three weeks after the eruption of the crisis with Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt. The four countries had announced in June a diplomatic and economic boycott of Qatar over its support and financing of terrorism. Sheikh Sultan vowed that he will “soon” return to Doha.
