For his part, Trump highlighted the close US-Saudi ties. He noted that the relations were “strained” during former President Barack Obamas tenure but that he and the Crown Prince have become "very good friends in a short period of time." Ties with Riyadh are at the best they have ever been, he stressed. Trump said Saudi Arabia has been a great friend to the US and is a "great purchaser" and "investor" in its economy. He brought props to the Oval Office meeting to illustrate the close security partnership, showing reporters a sign that lists Saudi purchases and another of pending sales of military equipment to the Kingdom.
