Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman seeks to bolster Saudi-US cooperation

NEW YORK: Upon his arrival in New York, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman will hold a series of meetings to bolster cooperation and investment between major Saudi and American financial and economic institutions. He will hold meetings with CEOs, senior businessmen and representatives of major Wall Street banks.His New York schedule includes meetings with prominent political, financial and economic figures, including partners in the Red Sea Beach Tourism Project.He will reportedly meet the city’s former Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and heads of US firms during a dinner banquet.The crown prince will sponsor and participate in the Saudi-US CEO Forum in New York, which will be attended by influential economic figures such as Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan, and Adena Friedman, CEO and president of NASDAQ.The forum will bring together the business elite from the US and the Kingdom for a day of formal presentations, panel discussions, and trade and cultural shows. The crown prince is also set to meet with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and senior UN officials. The meeting follows the Saudi interception of seven ballistic missiles fired by Houthi rebels in Yemen toward various residential areas in the Kingdom on Sunday. Falling fragments from the intercepted missiles killed an Egyptian civilian and injured two others. The missile attacks came the day after the arrival in Sanaa of the UN’s newly appointed special envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths.The talks between UN officials and the crown prince will focus on “the tense situation in several Arab countries, and the role of Saudi Arabia in establishing stability in the region,” a UN source told Arab News.Stephen Schwarzman, CEO of Blackstone Group LP, will host an event for the crown prince on Tuesday.During his last day in New York, the crown prince will meet with technology companies. He will also visit Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle to cultivate investments, and is expected to host a banquet.Misk Art InstituteOn the sidelines of his visit to New York, the Misk Art Institute will hold its second exhibition at the Philips Expo Center.The four-day exhibition will highlight the Kingdom’s artistic heritage under the theme “Contemporary Saudi Art.”The institute, which operates under the Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Foundation (MiSK), encourages grassroots artistic production in Saudi Arabia, and enables cultural diplomacy and international exchanges.
