The Arab Coalition to restore legitimacy in Yemen announced on Tuesday that a Saudi oil tanker came under attack by the Iran-backed Houthi militias in regional waters. Coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki said that the attack took place west of the Hodeidah port, which is under Houthi control. The attack took place on 1:30 pm on Tuesday and was thwarted after a coalition naval vessel intercepted the assault. The targeted tanker was slightly damaged, but able to continue along its course, escorted by a coalition vessel. Maliki condemned this terrorist attack, which poses a dangerous threat to global trade and marine navigation in the Mandeb Strait and Red Sea. The continuation of such attacks proves the danger of the Houthi militias and their backers to regional and international security. Tuesday’s failed attack also confirms that the Hodeidah port continues to be used as a launchpad for terrorist acts and arms and rocket smuggling operations. The Arab Coalition will continue to take the necessary measures to preserve the freedom of navigation in the Mandeb Strait and the Red Sea as part of its efforts to restore security and stability in Yemen, declared Maliki.
