The Israel Security Agency, Shabak, claimed, on Wednesday, that a huge Palestinian military operation was thwarted – a plan to attack an Israeli Navy vessel and to murder the soldiers. A Shabak statement read by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Wednesday, said that intelligence information was provided last month and that on March, 12, 2018 the Israeli Navy and the Shabak detained 10 Palestinians from Rafah suspected to collect data and plot to conduct the mentioned attack. According to the statement, a Palestinian boat off the fishing zone was captured and it turned out that those on it worked on collecting intelligence information about Israeli Navy activities. Investigation revealed that one of the arrested, called Amin Saadi Muhammad Jummaa, is originally a member of Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine and has participated in plotting an attack on Israeli Navy vessel. The plan was that one boat would act as a diversion by leaving the fishing zone so that a navy ship would approach it, according to the interrogation. “A second boat would attack the ship, firing a Kornet (anti-tank) missile at it, with the intention of causing injury and death to the soldiers on board,” the statement said. Based on the plot, a third boat would then arrive on the scene and take the wounded soldiers hostage to be exchanged with Palestinians in the Israeli prisons. “In order to prepare for the attack, Jummaa conducted a number of observation missions on navy ships and collected intelligence about the location of the navy ships, the number of soldiers on them and the types of weaponry on board,” added the statement. Netanyahu depicted this as an another terrorist operation of several others that were conducted by the Islamic Jihad Movement in Gaza during the past months.
