Mohammed bin Rashid Honors Bahraini Nabil Al Hamar with Media Personality of the Year Award

Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, honored on Wednesday winners of the 17th Arab Journalism Award at a ceremony held at the conclusion of the Arab Media Forum (AMF) 2018. Al Maktoum honored the Adviser to the King of Bahrain for Media Affairs, Nabil bin Yaqoob Al Hamar with the Media Personality of the Year award, in recognition of his efforts to enrich the Arab media, where he has made many important contributions throughout his career. A special recognition award was also bestowed to the family of the late Ibrahim Nafaa, who passed away earlier this year after a long journey in the media life, enriching the Arab press scene and leaving behind important achievements in the field of Egyptian and Arab journalism. Nafaa was the former editor-in-chief of Al Ahram, former chairperson of the Arab Journalists Association and former Chairman of the Arab Journalism Award jury. The event saw the honoring of 14 outstanding Arab journalists, who represented daily newspapers, magazines, online web portals and media organizations from the Arab world. Asharq Al-Awsat’s Shaker Nouri was awarded the Press Interview Award. Other winners included Egyptian Writer Saleh Mountaser, who was honored with the Best Column Award, Al Bayan newspaper team, who received the Political Journalism Award, Sid Ali Mohafdah from Bahrain’s Al-Bilad newspaper for Investigative Reporting, and Mohammed Riyadh from Egypt’s Al-Watan newspaper for Cultural Journalism. Asmaa Shalabi from Egypt’s Al Youm7 newspaper received the Humanitarian Journalism Award, Mourad Al Masri from Al-Ittihad newspaper was awarded the Sports Journalism Award, and the Photojournalism Award went to Ahmed Gharbali from Agence France-Presse, while the Outstanding Cartoonist Award was bestowed to Mahir Rashwan from Kuwait’s Aljareeda newspaper. The Young Journalist Award was given to Jihad Abbas and Mohammed Allaithi from Al Watan newspaper; and Douaa Al Fouli from Masrawi newspaper. The General Secretariat of the Arab Journalism Award received this year over 5,874 submissions from journalists from across the Arab region and the world.
