Saudi Arabia underlined on Tuesday the statement issued at the end of the 29th Arab League summit that was hosted in Dhahran on Sunday, reported the Saudi Press Agency. Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz chaired a cabinet session that hailed the success of the summit and its assertion of the Palestinian cause as the core issue of the Arab world. The cabinet noted King Salman’s dubbing of the Dhahran meeting as the “Jerusalem Summit” and Riyadh’s donation of 150 million dollars for preserving holy Muslim sites in Jerusalem and 50 million dollars for UNRWA. The grants represent the monarch’s commitment to helping the fraternal Palestinian people and confirmation that their cause is at the heart of the Arab nation, said the ministers. In addition, they welcomed the statement issued at the end of the Arab League summit and its emphasis on joint Arab work aimed at protecting the nation against looming dangers and preserving security and stability. It highlighted in this regard the summit’s national Arab security document that tackles joint challenges facing the region. Moreover, the cabinet hailed King Salman’s patronage on Monday of the conclusion of the Joint Gulf Shield 1 military exercises. His presiding over the drills, which saw the participation of 25 countries, embodies his keenness on the importance of military cooperation and coordination with fraternal countries to ensure regional and international security and stability. The ministers also tackled the recent visits paid by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, to the United States, France and Spain. He held talks on his trips with senior officials and oversaw the signing of several joint agreements. The inking of these deals, said the cabinet, demonstrates these countries’ strong support for Saudi Vision 2030 and the reforms currently taking place in the Kingdom. They also demonstrate their willingness to deepen cooperation on all levels in a manner that achieves Saudi Arabia’s interests and those of friendly nations and bolsters global security. The cabinet then assessed a number of recent developments, most notably the Iran-backed Houthi militias’ firing of ballistic missiles towards Saudi Arabia in clear defiance of UN Security Council resolutions 2216 and 2231. It hailed the Saudi air defenses for intercepting the rockets and thwarting the Houthis’ malicious intentions. On Syria, the cabinet reiterated Saudi Arabia’s call to put an end to the suffering of the Syrian people, holding the regime responsible for military operations that were carried out against it by the US, UK and France. The three Western countries launched strikes against regime chemical facilities last week in response to a regime chemical attack against the town of Douma in Eastern Ghouta that left at least 40 people dead.
