Visitors of a park in the city of Hirosaki in northern Japan are treated every year to a cherry blossom festival. Visitors are amazed at the breathtaking sight of about 2,600 blossoming cherry trees. A celebration marking the festival’s 100th anniversary is being held at a park surrounding Hirosaki Castle, the Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) reported Sunday. The Air Self-Defense Forces "Blue Impulse" aerobatics display team took part in the celebrations by staging an air show above cheering crowds. City officials say that the blossoms are expected to reach their peak on Tuesday. A woman from the neighboring Akita area said she loves the cherry blossoms in Hirosaki and that she wants to come again next year. The festival runs through May 6.
