A Russian delegation from Atomstroyexport will arrive in Egypt soon to finalize the preparations to establish a nuclear power plant in al-Dabaa, west Egypt, said Ministry of Electricity spokesman Ayman Hamzah. Egypt is trying to rely on new and renewable energy sources to generate electrical energy. The project was launched on December 11 in Cairo during a ceremony attended by President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Hamzah revealed that a delegation of major Egyptian media outlets will visit Russia to learn about the technology used in establishing the power plant. Moscow estimated that the construction of the project will kick off in 2020. Upon their arrival in Egypt, the Atomstroyexport delegates will meet with officials at the Ministry of Electricity, said a ministry source. It added that they will also meet with head of the Nuclear Power Plant Authority Dr. Amjad al-Wakeel to establish the first agreement on developing logistic support for the Dabaa plant. Speaking to Sputnik, the source stated that the visit came after a series of negotiations where several suggestions were discussed on the logistic support for the nuclear plant. Once agreement was reached, the authority and Russian company officials determined the initial phase of coordination. The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, added that the Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority (ENRRA) will soon complete reviewing the data presented by Nuclear Power Plant Authority to issue permits for Egyptian engineers and technicians.
