The SAM Organization for Rights and Liberties accused the Iran-backed Houthi militias in Yemen of killing 25 children in March and spreading hatred and intolerance in schools. The Geneva-based organization revealed that it had received complaints from parents that Houthi militias were brainwashing and recruiting adolescents and children with hate speech at schools. The situation has forced some parents to stop from sending their children to school. In its report, SAM also documented child recruitment by the Houthis in Sanaa, Dhamar, Amran and Shabwa. It documented 33 cases of children being suspended from schools as a result of extra fees imposed by militias. At least 118 cases of child abuse were recorded in March, most of which took place in Taiz, Sanaa and Hodeidah. The violations against children included 48 injuries, one by landmines and four by sniper fire, in addition to 25 deaths, five by landmines and two by snipers. According to the report, the militia committed a total of 330 violations in March. It pointed out that recorded violations do not reflect the full picture on the ground, as much as they represent a random segment of the reality of human rights in Yemen. In March, 50 civilians were killed by Houthi militias, 20 of whom were killed in the Taiz province, the report added.
