Egypt: ACA Orders Arrest of Officials on Bribery Charges

The Administrative Control Authority (ACA) ordered on Saturday the arrest of officials in various sectors for being accused of bribery. The total value of violations exceeded EGP20 million (USD1.13 million). ACA stated that its bodies arrested former director general in one of the banks on charges of receiving bribery from the owner of a private firm in return of getting credit facilitation and loans from the bank without any guarantees. Concerning the ministry of finance, the ACA caught high-rank official and general directors affiliated with the finance sector red-handed during receiving bribery from the owner of one of the exports and contracting companies in return of implementing affairs for the ministry of health, in violation of the law. An employee was captured in a charity association as he withdrew money and transferred the amount to his private account, and he attempted to impersonate another person, said ACA. It added that a former security officer was arrested after receiving bribery from a property owner. Also, an employee was arrested for forging contracts of lands and selling them for over EGP4 millions. In a related context, the ACA asserted that Banha Court sentenced to jail engineering administration director, maintenance engineer and maintenance technician in Banha University Hospital. The sentence ranged between 3 to 6 years with a suspended execution for the collapse of an electric elevator in the hospital in January, leading to the death of seven people.
