Saudi Arabia announced on Tuesday its support for President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw the United States from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal. The Kingdom supports his declaration that economic sanctions will be re-imposed on Iran. These sanctions were suspended by the agreement, said a statement by Saudi Arabia carried by the Saudi Press Agency. The Saudi support for the withdrawal from the deal is based on its complete support for the need to exert all efforts that would limit the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East and the world. Iran, however, abused the economic break from the lifting of the sanctions and used it to continue its destabilizing activity in the region, continued the statement. This was especially demonstrated through its development of its ballistic missiles and support of terrorist groups in the region, including “Hezbollah” and the Houthi militia, it stressed. The Houthis, it said, have used the expertise relayed to them by Iran to target civilians in Saudi Arabia and Yemen and trade routes in territorial waters. Saudi Arabia hoped that the international community would take a united and decisive stance on Iran and its hostile destabilizing actions in the region, including its support to the Syrian regime of Bashar Assad that has committed the most atrocious crimes against its people. These crimes, including the use of chemical weapons, have killed more than half a million civilians, charged the Saudi statement. The Kingdom therefore stressed that it will continue to work with its partners in the US and international community to achieve the goals announced by Trump. It underscored the need to address the danger posed by Iran’s polices on international security and peace. This threat is not limited to its nuclear activity, but covers all hostile acts, such as its meddling in regional countries and its support for terrorism.
