BAGHDAD: Iraq has said it will close airports and border crossings for 24 hours during the upcoming May 12 election, according to reports from state television on Wednesday. They were citing an Iraqi border agency order. Iraqis head to the polls on Saturday in the first national election after defeating Daesh militants who took over large swathes of the country in 2014. The shutdown will come into effect at midnight on Friday.
