Two Kuwaiti ministers have survived no-confidence motions filed against them, following a marathon grilling session last week. Parliament Speaker Marzooq Al-Ghanem announced that the parliament renewed confidence and rejected the no-confidence motions filed against Social Affairs and Labor and State Minister for Economic Affairs Hind Al-Sabeeh and Oil Minister Bakheet Al-Rashidi. Rashidi breezed through the no-confidence vote after 34 lawmakers voted in his favor and 11 against him while Sabeeh was backed by 28 MPs against 12. Ghanem said that 45 lawmakers were present at the session and he called on each of them to state their position twice, first at the end of the debate on Rashidi and a second time following the discussion regarding Sabeeh. Lawmakers Omar Al Tabtabaei and Abdul Wahab Al Babtain filed on April 16 a motion requesting the questioning of Rashidi mainly for wasting state funds. Sabeeh had to face the no-confidence vote after MP Saleh Ashour filed to quiz her over allegations of abusing the law to dissolve non-governmental organizations and cooperative societies, failing to enforce necessary policies to restructure Kuwait’s demographics and failing to apply development plans to bolster the national economy. Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah sent cables of congratulations to Sabeeh and Rashidi after the Parliament renewed confidence in both ministers, and hailed the performances of the two ministers against whom no-confidence motions had been filed.
