Egypt, France Discuss Counter-Terrorism Cooperation

Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi held talks in Cairo on Monday with French intelligence chief Laurent Nunez on counter-terrorism efforts. The two officials also addressed security and intelligence cooperation between their two countries. Egyptian presidential spokesman Bassam Radi said that Sisi stressed during the talks the “strength and depth of Egyptian-French ties and the importance Cairo places on bolstering cooperation between them in various fields.” He also hailed the coordination between them over regional and international issues. For his part, Nunez relayed to Sisi French President Emmanuel Macron’s regards, saying that his country is “proud of the ties that bind it with Egypt.” Radi added that Paris is keen on holding constant coordination with Egypt in confronting various common challenges, especially on the turbulent scene in the Middle East. He hailed in this regard Egypts pivotal role in bolstering security and stability in the region and its efforts to reach political settlements to ongoing crises. Moreover, Sisi and Nunez discussed bilateral ties and ways to develop them in various fields, said the spokesman. In a separate development, Egypt’s parliament ratified on Monday a draft-law on countering cyber-crimes. The draft includes sanctions, which the government said aim at protecting government data, systems and information networks.
