Speaker Nabih Berri expressed his readiness to cooperate with President Michel Aoun, following a visit to Baabda Palace on Tuesday, which the speaker described as “more than excellent”. “The meeting mainly focused on all the future issues, especially the work of the House of Parliament, and the projects that must be swiftly accomplished,” Berri told reporters after the meeting. However, the speaker noted that talks with Aoun did not touch on any potential names for the new presidency of parliament, nor on details pertaining to the new cabinet formation. “We’ve discussed all these topics, and I can say is that the President and I see eye-to-eye on most of the matters,” he added. During their first official meeting following the recent parliamentary elections, Aoun and Berri discussed the general situation in the country and the developments on the local and regional arenas. “I do not say that there is a new page, but a renewed page, because since the election of the President, I have repeatedly expressed my readiness to cooperate with the first presidency,” Berri stated. He described the meeting as “more than excellent.” “This is not mere media talk,” he stressed. Asked whether he separated between his relationship with Aoun and that with Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil, Berri said: “I establish relations with all the segments of society, and Gebran Bassil is one of these segments.”
