Idol at the time. DUBAI: You know there’s a demand for modest fashion during the holy month when a big name American designer releases a Ramadan collection for the second year running. And this is just what Michael Kors has done. The sportswear fashion designer – who is the honorary chairman and chief creative officer for Michael Kors Holdings Limited – is back with a special line for the region, aptly titled the “Michael Kors Ramadan 2018 Capsule Collection.” And as always, it combines luxury with affordability – exactly what we like to hear! Featuring 19 MICHAEL Michael Kors pieces, the edit includes six handbag styles that are exclusive to the Middle East market and currently available for sale. Describing the collection in a statement to Harper’s Bazaar Arabia, the brand said: “Women in the Middle East have very discerning taste and they appreciate the luxury and quality they find in our clothes and accessories,” adding that Kors focused on “offering our customers who celebrate Ramadan something special, such as luxurious and elegant kaftans, including a metallic foil version that has that little something extra to help you stand out at special occasions. It’s covered up, but still exciting and eye-catching.” Included in the collection is the Mercer Studio Bag, available in the colors Admiral, Bright Red and Oat, described as “at once modern and sophisticated.” With an adjustable shoulder strap, the woven leather handbag is the perfect day-to-night accompaniment, making it suitable for business and iftar gatherings. Then there’s the Jade Clutch — also available in the same colors mentioned above, but with an additional festive metallic gold edition. Featuring a removable chain-link strap that allows it to be changed into a shoulder bag, this is one for an evening out. Finally, rounding up the edit are the Barbra Clutch and Jet Set leather card case, as well as modestly cut navy kaftans and Cayla and Paloma sandals. As the youngest recipient of the CFDA Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award — which recognizes outstanding contributions made to American fashion by individuals from all areas of the industry and related arts — Michael Kors is one of the biggest names in the industry, his celeb fans including Jennifer Lopez, Heidi Klum and Emma Roberts. Earlier this month, the designer stepped out with Naomi Watts at the 2018 Met Gala in New York, where the actress revealed: “Michael told me once that he knows how to dress anyone so long as they have an opinion, so we work well together. We connected the first time we met.” Meanwhile in December, Michael Kors Holdings Limited announced it was going fur-free across the company — including Jimmy Choo, which it acquired last July — with production of fur items being phased out by the end of 2018. It joins the likes of Gucci, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and Armani in doing so. “This decision marks a new chapter as our company continues to evolve its use of innovative materials,” said chairman and CEO John D. Idol at the time. “Due to technological advances in fabrications, we now have the ability to create a luxe aesthetic using non-animal fur.” The gorgeous Ramadan collection is available across the region, in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon.
