Egyptian Armed Forces killed eight "takfiri elements" after fire exchange during combing and raiding areas in North and Central Sinai. A number of weapons and ammunition were seized, the army said in a statement on Tuesday. Within the “Comprehensive Operation - Sinai 2018,” which was launched to purge the Egyptian lands from terrorism, two soldiers were killed while two officers and three other conscripts were injured during the clashes. “The takfiris were killed in an exchange of fire with army forces during raids in northern and central Sinai,” Military Spokesman Col. Tamer al-Rifai said, as the video showed footage and photos of the attacks. For years, the Egyptian army has been carrying out continuous operations in the Sinai peninsula to hunt down groups of extremists (most of whom belong to ISIS). In February, the armed forces and the police launched the Operation-Sinai to restore security in the mountainous, densely populated province. In Central Sinai, the army seized ammunition, military uniforms, money, wireless communication devices, a laptop, a camera and containers that were filled with explosive materials. A number of 20 vehicles and 79 platelets motorbikes were seized and destroyed by the army. Furthermore, the army destroyed 80 hideouts in North and Central Sinai, where a number of explosive devices, ammunition and takfiri books were found. The military engineers managed to detect and destroy 15 explosive devices that were placed on different routes to target the army personnel, and 11 kilograms of drugs were also detected. In the Egyptian-Libyan borders, Rifai pointed out that the air force targeted two vehicles loaded with quantities of arms and ammunition as they attempted to penetrate the western strategic border. In this context, the army detected 544 nine millimeter guns, three machine guns, three cartridges and ammunition in a hideout in the desert area in South Sinai. The army’s border guards arrested 605 persons while attempting to illegally immigrate across the western borders, including 27 people which the statement asserted are of different nationalities.
