The organization’s member states have created a legal environment for the protection of women’s rights Updated 12 sec ago Arab News July 02, 2018 01:18 58 JEDDAH: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held a two-day workshop in Ouagadougou, capital of the Republic of Burkina Faso, to review preparations for the Seventh Ministerial Conference on the Role of Women in Development. Burkina Faso’s Minister of Women Affairs Helene Marie Laurence Ilboudou Marchal said since the adoption of the first OIC action plan for the promotion of women nearly 10 years ago, the organization’s member states have created a legal environment for the protection of women’s rights. However, she added, many challenges remain and OIC members and institutions should take necessary steps to address those issues. Ambassador Hesham Youssef, OIC assistant secretary-general for humanitarian, social and cultural affairs, delivered the speech of OIC Secretary-General, Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen, in which he highlighted the efforts undertaken by the organization to promote the role of women in the development process.
