The Saudi-led Arab coalition announced on Sunday that the Iran-backed Houthi militias have been holding a ship at Yemen’s strategic Hodeidah port for two months. The G Muse has been held by the militants for unknown reasons, it said. Official Yemeni army spokesman Abed Majali stated that the militias have long seized several ships loaded with various cargo, such as food, medicine and fuel. This is yet another violation in their long record of infractions, he added. Moreover, he said that a decisive military operation against the Houthis is the only way to end the suffering of the Yemeni people, deliver aid to those in need and liberate Hodeidah. The liberation of the strategic port will reflect positively on the people because it will ensure that aid is delivered, he said, noting that the militias have long looted relief supplies and sent them to the battlefronts. The Houthis have transformed the port into a base for carrying out their terrorist attacks and it is a main route for the import of Iranian weapons, most notably ballistic missiles, Majali continued. He assured that the Yemeni army and Arab coalition were on the verge of liberating Hodeidah city and its port. Separately, various Yemeni parties voiced on Sunday their support for the ongoing victories the legitimate forces are achieving in their battles against the Houthis on the West coast and all other fronts. They stressed in a statement the need to commit to the political solution in Yemen, which is based on the Gulf initiative, national dialogue and United Nations Security Council resolutions. United Arab Emirates State Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Anwar Gargash, meanwhile, tweeted: “We welcome continuing efforts by UN Special Envoy, Martin Griffiths to achieve an unconditional Houthi withdrawal from Hodeidah city and port.” “We have paused our campaign to allow enough time for this option to be fully explored. We hope he will succeed,” he explained. “To clarify the coalition has paused the advance on the city and port on June 23 for a week to allow the UN envoy to secure an unconditional withdrawal from Hodeidah. We continue our pressure on the parameter and await results of the envoy’s visit to Sanaa,” he added.
