DUBAI: Oman said that it was in discussions with Georgia regarding the recent incident where Omani nationals were sent back from Tbilisi, the Times of Oman reported on Sunday. Two Omani citizens were reportedly denied entry into Georgia, Oman daily, Shabiba reported earlier this week. Oman’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that it was in talks with Georgian authorities about the incident. The ministry released a statement saying that other Gulf nationals were also denied entry. However, the statement also read: “The ministry affirms that relations with the Republic of Georgia are strong and work on the continuation and development of these relations is ongoing.” Under a joint agreement, Omani nationals are exempted from the pre-entry visa requirement. Meanwhile, earlier this month the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it is closely following up on social media reports of citizens being subjected to “ill-treatment” at Georgia’s airports. “The ministry, along with the UAE Embassy in Tbilisi, are seriously monitoring the issue and giving it a great consideration,” it said in a statement posted by UAE news agency WAM.
