An air strike in Syrias eastern province of Deir Ezzor has killed 26 ISIS members, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Friday. Twenty-eight civilians were also killed in the raid on the village of Al-Soussa near the Iraqi border late Thursday, according to the monitor. It was not immediately clear if the raid was carried out by an Iraqi plane or by one of the US-led Coalition fighting ISIS. The Coalition said it or "partner forces" may have conducted the strikes. "The Coalition or our partner forces may have conducted strikes in the vicinity of Al-Soussa and Baghour Fukhani yesterday," coalition spokesman Colonel Sean Ryan said on Friday in an emailed response to a question from Reuters. The report of civilian casualties was being forwarded to the "Civilian Casualty Cell for further assessment", he said. Iraqi warplanes have recently carried out strikes against ISIS in eastern Syria, while coalition aircraft have been supporting Kurdish-led fighters battling the extremists. State news agency SANA reported the strike late Thursday, accusing the US-led coalition of carrying it out. The Observatory said the attack had targeted an ice factory east of Soussa a few kilometers from the border with Iraq. Most of the civilians killed were Iraqis, it added. ISI was largely defeated in most of the territory it controlled in both countries last year, but fighters still operate in the desert near the border.
