Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz has approved a number of decisions of the Saudi Health Council to develop and regulate health services in the country. He issued his approval for applying the electronic program for sick leave and coordination with the Ministry of Civil Service to adopt any amendments on the sick leave. The approval also included the training and rehabilitation program of national personnel in medical codes which will be implemented in coordination between the Saudi Health Council and the Human Resources Development Fund (Hadaf). It is based on stimulating the private health sector to employ the outputs of the training programs in this sector through the funding provided by Hadaf. It aims to raise the quality of healthcare outcomes, costs, and health spending, thus medical coding becomes a new profession within the health sector. The Ministry of Health, General Administration of Licenses, linked the licensing system electronically with the management of medical coding in the National Center for Health Information. Medical coding license is now included within the requirements to issue licenses. The Council of Cooperative Health Insurance coordinated with the Saudi Health Council to find controls and ways to employ graduates in private health care providers and health insurance companies. It also adopted and included standards of medical coding and license to use the medical coding issued by National Center for Health Information within the national standards for the accreditation of health facilities by Saudi Central Board for Accreditation of Healthcare Institutions (CBAHI). Medical coding at the National Center for Health Information is now authorized to conclude employment agreements to benefit from the outputs of training programs. This is part of the Councils efforts to contribute to the achievement of Vision 2030. The approval also indicated that officials can begin analyzing the results of the health system response to community members, carried out by the Saudi Health Council in the various health sectors in the Kingdom based on nationalities. It also indicated that when preparing any future study, the observations of the members of the Council should be taken into consideration. In addition, primary health care centers of various government sectors should be supported and the process of medicinal supply and storage must be reviewed to avoid shortages in some health sectors. The King’s approval also indicated that preventive programs and awareness plans should be issued more to reduce the risk of chronic diseases and raise society’s health level. Study of National Health Accounts for 2017 for the health sectors in Saudi Arabia has also been included in the approval. On this occasion, the Secretary-General of the Saudi Health Council Dr. Ahmed al-Amry extended his thanks and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques on approving these decisions, praising the constant care being given by the wise leadership to organize and develop health services in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Amry pointed out that the Council has carried out many important activities in the health sector. It created a suitable organizational and professional environment to raise the efficiency, organization and dissemination of health services in all regions of the Kingdom in accordance with the latest scientific methods and standards.
