Yemeni pro-government forces, backed by the Saudi-led Arab Coalition, continued advances across battlefronts in Yemen as Houthi militia ranks collapsed. Yemeni President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi said that Iran-backed Houthi militias have exhausted all fighting capacity when faced with the national army’s resilience, making the zero hour for comprehensive operations to eliminate Houthis right around the corner. In an official statement during a meeting in Aden with senior military commanders, the Yemeni president confirmed that Houthis started bleeding their militia reserves last March. According to military strategists, whenever a fighting party resorts to expending its reserves it translates into inevitable collapse and preparation for defeat. Hadi said the Yemeni army, which saw a vital reshuffle after the Houthi coup, started making plans for the final offence to be launched against coupist militias. Supported by Arab Coalition air forces, the Yemeni army announced opening a new front in the Directorate of Shada. The army announced liberating a series of sites with air support from the coalition aircraft in al Bayda and Taiz, winning over battles which resulted in the killing and wounding of dozens of Houthi militiamen. Army and the popular resistance forces continued to comb and pursue Houthi enclaves on the west coast, near directorates such as Hays, Haitha, Zubaid and Darihmi, located south of Hodeidah. Heavy to medium weapons have been retrieved while continuing to demine Houthi-held zones. Militiamen have planted mines throughout infrastructure and inside farms, in hopes of impeding the advance of pro-government troops. Official military sources said that National Army forces launched a large-scale military operation in the Directorate of Shada, west of Saada, where fierce battles were fought against Houthi militias. According to the Yemeni Army official website, National Army forces managed to liberate the Kaab al-Jaber Mountains and the village of Hasama, the first district of the Shada district. On Houthi atrocities, five civilians, including three women and two children, were killed and a number of others wounded by a Katyusha type rocket fired on Sunday at a wedding in the town of Al-Hazem in the Al-0Jawf province. “The hospital received five women and children killed, and a number of victims who sustained injury, some of them in a critical condition,” the head of Al- Jawf hospital said. Yemen’s Aden-based government condemned Houthi bombing and targeting of civilians, while the Yemeni Ministry of Human Rights in an official statement said “this crime comes in part of a series of violations committed by the militias against civilians for over three years.” The statement added that “the firing of rockets at civilian populations is a crime against humanity, a flagrant violation of international laws and Security Council resolutions, including resolution 2216.”
