Central Bank Governor Riad Salameh denied on Thursday reports about financial instability, saying monetary conditions in Lebanon were stable. In comments made after meeting with President Michel Aoun at Baabda Palace, Salameh said that the country could expect two percent growth this year. Deposits in Lebanese banks are growing at a rate of five percent per year, according to current trends, he said. As interest rates rose in the region, the situation in Lebanon remained stable, Salameh added. Prior to making the comments, the Central Bank Governor briefed Aoun on the economic situation in the country. He said the Central Bank is keen on preserving the rights of depositors in Lebanese banks.
