A knife attack by a Palestinian in a West Bank settlement near the city of Ramallah on Thursday killed one Israeli and wounded two others, while the man was shot dead. The attacker entered the Adam settlement despite strong security measures taken by the Israeli authorities. He “infiltrated into (the Adam settlement) and stabbed three civilians," the Israeli army spokesman said in a statement. Israeli media reports said the Palestinian was shot by a resident of the settlement. Following the attack, Israel threw a tight security dragnet around the settlement which lies between Jerusalem and Ramallah, and asked residents to remain in their houses as police searched for other possible attackers. The army later opened an investigation into how the Palestinian man was able to infiltrate the settlement which was built in 1980. Israeli sources said the army is searching for a vehicle that transported the Palestinian attacker to the settlement. This was the first stabbing attack inside a settlement since April.
