Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah and Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah al-Khalid al-Sabah received Sunday United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths, discussing with him the recent developments in the Yemeni territories. Kuwait is central to peace in Yemen, said the envoy. He indicated that even though previous talks held in Kuwait didn’t produce peace then, they did however define “the narrative for the peace that we hope to bring to Yemen in the course of the next month”. Two years ago, Yemeni parties held talks in Kuwait for about 100 days without reaching any results. "I have lived a long life and the inspiration that we have received just now from His Highness is a moment that I will never forget,” Griffiths was quoted as saying by Kuwait News Agency (KUNA). The UN envoy praised the efforts of the Emir, asserting that "I dont think we will succeed in Yemen in stopping this war and bringing political resolution to it without the help and experience of Kuwait.” The Kuwaiti Foreign Minister affirmed to Griffiths Kuwaits unwavering stance towards the Yemeni people and their right to live in peace and security. He also stressed that Kuwait will continue to exert efforts to provide humanitarian aid to Yemenis.
