JEDDAH: Northern Border Gov. Prince Faisal bin Khalid bin Sultan has approved a plan for the environmental rehabilitation of Wadi Arar. The plan is within the framework of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which aims to achieve environmental sustainability by reducing pollution and mitigate desertification through plants and treated water resources. Prince Faisal said that there was a need for measures to address the environmental situation in the region and prepare a plan to rehabilitate the environment, valleys and natural reserves. He also called for studies researching the best ways to protect natural pastures from desertification and pollution to preserve the environmental and natural resources of the northern border region. Prince Faisal stressed that environmental sustainability was a priority in the development of the region. He said out that the rehabilitation of Wadi Arar through protecting its components (soil, air and water) from pollution, the restoration of its biological diversity and the provision of natural parks to citizens, would promote ecological tourism, in addition to strengthening the culture of preserving the environment and wildlife in all government sectors, as well as in society. The three-phase rehabilitation process, which will extend over 120 days, will begin under the supervision of the Northern Border Province, with the participation of the municipality, Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Health and the National Authority for Tourism and National Heritage in the region.
