Morocco: 4.9% Annual Growth in Sales of New Cars

New car sales recorded 4.86 percent increase by the end of July compared to the same period last year, according to Morocco’s Association of Importers of Motor Vehicles. The Association pointed out that 104,678 cars were sold by the end of July 2018, compared to 99,831 cars sold in the same period last year in Morocco. The percentage of sales of imported cars increased by 5.21 percent to reach 89,122 vehicles sold while the percentage of sales of locally manufactured cars rose to 2.87 percent, with an average of 15,526 vehicles sold. The Association explained that that sales of personal use cars have improved. The volume of sales of cars for personal use amounted to 96,808 vehicles until the end of July 2018, compared to 92,404 cars in the same period last year, a rise of 4.77 percent. According to the Association’s statistics, Dacia topped the list with selling 30,450 cars, an increase of 4.28 percent, followed by Renault with 15,094 vehicles sold at a growth rate of 18.32 percent, then Volkswagen with 7,027 cars, a rise of 5.48 percent. The fourth in the list was Hyundai with 6,948 vehicles, a sales growth of 1 percent, Fiat fifth in sales with 5912, 17.75 percent, Ford with 5,885, Peugeot with 5,876 cars, Nissan with 4,114 cars, Toyota with 3,760 cars and Citroen with 3,732 cars sold. In terms of luxury car sales, German manufacturers maintained the lead, with Mercedes ranking first with 1,778 cars sold by the end of July 2018, compared to 1,740 cars in the same period last year, up 2.18 percent, followed by BMW with 1,744 vehicles and Audi with 1,566 cars.
