Saudi air defenses intercepted and destroyed late on Wednesday a ballistic missile that was fired by the Iran-backed Houthi militias in Yemen at Jazan, reported the Saudi Press Agency. Saudi-led Arab coalition spokesman Colonel Turki al-Maliki said that the missile was deliberately fired at densely-populated civilian areas in Jazan. Shrapnel from the destroyed missile landed in residential areas, leaving one Yemeni dead and 11 civilians wounded, he added. “This hostile act, carried out by the terrorist Iranian Houthi militia, proves that the Iranian regime is still providing them with advanced capabilities, in flagrant defiance of United Nations Security Council resolutions 2216 and 2231, with the main objective of threatening Saudi, regional and international security,” Maliki stated. “Launching ballistic missiles at civilian areas is a direct breach of International Humanitarian Law,” he stressed. The Joint Forces Command of the coalition will take all deterrent measures against such barbaric and reckless attacks in line with International Humanitarian Law, he vowed. Those supporting these terrorist crimes will be held accountable for their actions, he said, adding that the coalition will continue its efforts to maintain regional and international security.
