Saudi Arabia has made an installment of 2.3 billion riyals into the kingdom’s household allowance program, in the ninth payment to beneficiaries. Known as the Citizens Account, the scheme is a cash handout for low- and middle-income citizens to offset the impact of energy price increases. The August payment included 3.6 million main beneficiaries, 8.4 million households affiliates, in which 48 percent of families and individuals received full eligibility. Up to 926,000 households received support that exceeded SAR900, revealed the program. The value of the overall installments has neared SAR20 billion. Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources affirmed that it is closely monitoring the performance of the electricity sector, including the decisions issued by Electricity & Cogeneration Regulatory Authority (ECRA). It said electricity service providers should present flexible payment options for subscribers in the housing sector and issue electricity bills based on consumption. Saudi Electricity Company announced launching Tayseer program for subscribers of the housing sector whose invoices range from 300 to 3,000 Saudi Riyal. The company noted that around three million subscribers (whose invoices range from 300 to 3,000 Saudi Riyal) will be automatically registered in the program. Tayseer program will cover the period between July and December of 2018 – the first batch of invoices was issued Wednesday. At the end of the year, the financial liquidation between subscribers and the company will be carried out. Subscribers are free to proceed with the program or quit it, added the company. As for subscribers of invoices less than SAR300 or more than SAR3,000, then they can directly subscribe to the fixed invoice service - a service allowing subscribers to pay a fixed amount per month based on the monthly consumption average. Furthermore, Saudi Electricity Company stressed commitment to direct ECRA to allow payment by installments of accumulated debts of all subscribers to the housing sector in the period before July 2018.
