Royal Air Maroc (RAM) reached an agreement with the Moroccan Pilots Association (AMPL) after more than three weeks of serious disruptions that have hit Morocco’s national carrier’s business hard and affected passengers’ holidays. A joint statement issued by the parties did not reveal the content of the agreement while the company’s website announced the cancellation of six flights, which were supposed to depart on Wednesday from Mohamed V International Airport in Casablanca, heading to European cities. State-owned Moroccan airlines have been canceling flights since July 20, but they did not disclose the extent of losses incurred by the unrest. “The RAM and the Moroccan Association of Pilots (AMPL) welcome the conclusion of this agreement which emanates from their awareness of the major economic and social issues of the country and the essential role of tourism,” the statement said. “The agreement reflects the awareness of both parties of the importance of the pilots’ professional corps and the imperative need to maintain optimal working conditions in relation to their particular professional environment,” it added. The company indicated that the pilots had staged a "strike," but AMPL has denied any strike, holding the company responsible for this disruption. Local media have reported in recent days protests by travelers who found themselves stranded at Brussels and Amsterdam airports because of the disruption of company flights. The National Federation of Air Transport has called on both parties to carry out a "constructive dialogue" to avoid the crisis, which took place in 2009 and led to financial losses before the company regained its balance as of 2012. Morocco Airways has launched a plan to strengthen its activities in the African continent. It is noteworthy that the fleet of Moroccan airlines consists of 58 aircraft that head to 90 destinations across the world.
