More than 2 million Muslim pilgrims coming from all over the world have flocked onto Mount Arafat on Monday for performing one of the Hajj pilgrimage’s most important prayers and to praise Allah and ask for mercy and forgiveness. They also will be performing both noon and afternoon prayers at the Namirah Mosque and listen to the Arafat sermon. The sermon is given by the royally-assigned Sheikh Hussein bin Abdulaziz. According to Islamic tradition, the Arafat hill is the place where the Islamic prophet Muhammed stood and delivered the Farewell Sermon to the Muslims who had accompanied him for the Hajj towards the end of his life. Namirah Mosque is one of the most important landmarks in Arafat, where tens of thousands of pilgrims perform prayers on Arafat day. Gathering in the valley of Mount Arafat for a day of prayer marks the pinnacle of the annual Hajj pilgrimage and follows a long journey made easy and safe by Saudi efforts. Hajj pilgrimage rituals start off at Mina, 5 kilometers east of the Holy city of Makkah, and standing on the road from Makkah to the Hill of Arafat, where it comes closer to its culmination. Earlier, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz had welcomed pilgrims in a live broadcast. King Salman will be arriving in Mina on Monday to directly supervise overall pilgrimage activity at holy sites, and services and facilities provided. He also directed all government and private sectors related to the service of pilgrims to save no effort in facilitating the journey for incoming guests. Makkah Region Governor and Chairman of the Central Hajj Committee Prince Khalid Al-Faisal announced the success of logistics and security taskforces in protecting and helping guide Hajj pilgrims when visiting holy sites and performing pilgrimage rites. Prince Khalid, in a press conference held after he arrived at the holy site, said security taskforces have detected 160 fake pilgrimage programs, arrested 545,907 Hajj and Umrah violators, and sent back 231,911 unauthorized vehicles.
