Secretary General of the Muslim World League (MWL), Dr. Mohammed bin Abdul-Karim Al-Isa, called on Tuesday for conflict to be replaced with dialogue. Policies of hegemony and superiority should be replaced with understanding based on mutual respect, he added during a speech at the Meeting for Friendship Among Peoples being hosted by the Italian city of Rimini. This is the message of 1.8 billion Muslims, who are committed to their religious principles that value ethics and peace, he added. The meeting witnessed the participation of political and religious leaders and organization of scientific and intellectual activities in the presence of more than 5,000 people from around the world. Islam, Isa continued, promotes building bridges of peace and human harmony on all issues, starting with minority and women’s rights, migration problems, national integration, human trafficking, poverty, ignorance and others. The MWL, he continued, sensed the importance of bringing forward the real image of Islam, which supports coexistence and dialogue, away from extremism that has tarnished the religion’s image. A religion that is doomed to fail would not have lasted for more than 1,400 years, which is how long Islam has existed, Isa stressed. The nearly 1.8 billion Muslims spread throughout the world coexist with peoples of other religions. It is unreasonable and unjust to condemn an entire religion due to the extremism of a few individuals, he remarked.
