Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq described on Friday a report released two days ago on how Iran maintains contact and support with it as “worthless.” “Information published in the US report is worthless, to say the least,” official spokesman of Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq (AAH) and newly-elected MP Naim al-Aboudi told Asharq Al-Awsat on Friday. On Thursday, the Wall Street Journal cited recently declassified documents including interrogations held a decade ago by US-led forces in Iraq of Qais al-Khazali, who now heads the Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq that won 15 parliamentary seats in the country’s May elections. The interrogation files document how Iran is playing a long game inside Iraq, using various key figures to push its agenda. Khazali had been under arrest on suspicion of organizing an attempted kidnapping of US soldiers in the Iraqi city of Karala that left five Americans dead. In one interrogation from June 18, 2007, Khazali said his militia was among those that received training from Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps and Lebanon’s “Hezbollah” in military bases near Tehran. “In the report, there are some details that we do not hide, particularly information saying that we are supported by Iran or that we resist US forces or ISIS militants either in Iraq or in defending holy sites,” Aboudi said. The spokesperson linked the newly released report to the US plan in Iraq, particularly concerning AAHs ties with the Fath Alliance and its continuous rejection of American interference in Iraqi affairs. “AAH and Fath reject the US plan,” he said, adding that at the same time, the group does not interfere in the diplomatic choices of the Iraqi government. “The US interference in Iraq today is flagrant, particularly after Washington sent its envoy ... to impose its choices concerning the formation of the biggest parliamentary bloc,” Aboudi explained.
