Saudi air defenses intercepted on Tuesday two ballistic missiles that were fired by the Iran-backed Houthi militias in Yemen at the Kingdom. Saudi-led Arab coalition spokesman Colonel Turki al-Maliki said that the rockets were fired from Yemen’s Saada region towards Saudi Arabia’s Jizan city. They were deliberately fired at residential areas, but the air defenses destroyed them before they could reach their target, he stated. Maliki condemned the attack, saying this hostile act demonstrates the Iranian regime’s ongoing involvement in supporting the Houthis with sophisticated weapons in clear and blatant violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions 2216 and 2231. “The targeting of residential areas will only make us more determined to defeat these terrorist militias,” he declared. The Houthis’ actions reflect their despair given their major losses on the battlefield and the isolation they are suffering after the Yemeni people turned against them, he added. The downed missiles bring the total rockets fired by the Houthis against Saudi Arabia to 188.
