Saudi Public Prosecution demanded the death penalty for a Saudi national on charges of belonging to a terrorist group, headed by Muslim Brotherhood cleric Yusuf al-Qaradawi, and plotting against Saudi Arabia. He was found guilty of communicating with Qatari and Libyan Muslim Brotherhood members, interfering in Egyptian internal affairs and supporting anti-government insurgencies. Public Prosecution pressed 37 charges in the first hearing at the Riyadh Specialized Criminal Court, including contacting Qatari and Libyan authorities in violation of the boycott declared by Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt back in June 2017. He was also found guilty of sparking riots in Saudi Arabia and supporting uprisings in other Arab countries. The accused had made a number of television appearances and was active on social networking platforms, like Twitter and Snapchat, to push his plot to destabilize the Kingdom. Inciting the public disorder, provoking sedition and stoking grievances among prisoners families, were among the accounts pressed against the suspect. Saudi Arabia, in March 2014, listed the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist and extremist organization, automatically criminalizing joining or supporting the group. Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the UAE and Egypt had previously announced a blacklist of 59 individuals and 12 entities, including Qaradawi, who is based in Doha.
