Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei attempted Thursday to plead innocent from the criticism launched against the bodies under his powers, expressing reservation about the appearance of bodies parallel to the Iranian government. In a routine procedure, Khamenei convened with the chairman and members of the Assembly of Experts on Leadership on the closing day of the semi-annual meeting. “The way to improve is not to dispute, just as creating organizations to carry out tasks parallel to those of the governments is not expedient and will not succeed. Experience has proved that efforts should be made by the officials through lawful channels,” he stated. “Today, Iran’s system faces an all-out economic war that is carefully guided by a war room, but along with this war, there is a major media and propaganda warfare that is often neglected,” Khamenei said. He added, “The goal of this media war is to create anxiety and pessimism among people toward each other and the authorities, and to exaggerate economic problems in the minds of the public.” Khamenei pointed to the private meetings with officials of the various sectors: “My private meetings with the governmental, judiciary and armed forces officials have happened 10 times more than the public ones covered by the media. At these private meetings various issues are raised and discussed, but the public does not know about these meetings.” In the past days, criticism was made in the letter of Reformist Iranian leader Mehdi Karroubi who called on the Assembly of Experts on Leadership to hold accountable Khamenei because of his policies over the past thirty years and the role of the parallel bodies in the deterioration of the internal condition. In the last three decades, Iran witnessed the growth of government parallel bodies, mainly IRGC.
