Yemeni Vice President Ali Mohsen Saleh called on the international community to take a firm and decisive stance against the Iran-backed Houthis, especially after their obstruction of this week’s consultations in Geneva. He made his remarks while meeting in Riyadh with Yemeni Minister of Industry and Trade Dr. Mohammad al-Maitami. In addition, Saleh called on the international community to support the legitimate Yemeni government in its efforts to save the national currency. The government, national banks and international and regional support have the responsibility to preserve the currency and Yemeni economy during this critical time, he added. He also hailed the role played by Saudi Arabia in supporting Yemen, most notably its deposit in the central bank in Aden and supply of fuel to power stations. Saleh and Maitami discussed his ministry’s efforts in improving the Yemeni economy and the daily lives of the people. The three-day Geneva consultations ended in failure on Saturday after the Houthis failed to attend the talks.
