Lebanons Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri has stressed that communication with all factions on the formation of the new government has not stopped contrary to some media reports. Chairing a meeting of his parliamentary bloc on Tuesday, Hariri said that cooperation and joint responsibility between the presidency and the premiership are necessary during and after the process of cabinet formation. “In this sense, it should not be subject to debate and discussion because it constitutes a basis for the protection of political stability,” Hariri said, according to a statement released by his press office. Hariri, who chaired the bloc’s meeting at the Center House in Beirut, briefed al-Mustaqbal lawmakers on the latest developments in the cabinet formation process and the standstill since the last meeting he held with President Michel Aoun at Baabda Palace. The bloc “expressed its satisfaction” with the stances made by the PM-designate and his repeated calls for making logical demands on the cabinet line-up. It also lauded calls made by party leaders to calm a media dispute among themselves, which contributes to dialogue and the removal of obstacles impeding the birth of the government, said the statement. Also Tuesday, Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdel Latif Derian urged all Lebanese factions to cooperate with Hariri on the formation of the cabinet. “We are going through a real crisis,” he warned. “Those making compromises would be the eventual winners,” Derian said following talks with former Prime Minister Salim al-Hoss. Hariri was appointed on May 24 to form a national unity government. But his task has been complicated due to several demands and conditions placed by different political parties.
